How to Create Your Dream Kitchen in Your Custom Home

The kitchen is the most important room in the home. It is where meals are made for the ones you love, conversation flows, and is one of the most heavily used and highly trafficked areas of the home. Having your dream kitchen can make your life a dream come true and giving yourself the kitchen you have always dreamed of is a great investment if you use your kitchen often. But realizing your dreams and building the perfect kitchen isn’t as easy as it may seem, especially when starting from scratch building a custom home. Here are a few tips to help you create the perfect kitchen for your custom home.

Put in Wood Floors

No dream kitchen is complete without beautiful wood flooring. Hard flooring is both elegant, easy to clean, and durable. Getting a high quality, real-wood floor means that your floor can last for decades, possibly even a century, without needing to be replaced. Plus, wood floors mean sweeping and vacuuming are easy. There are tons of hardwood flooring options out there to choose from to go with any aesthetic that you want to target, so don’t be afraid to shop around and get creative with stains and types of wood.

Add an Island

The kitchen island is a stunning centerpiece and incredibly useful utility to add to your dream kitchen. Islands help make a large kitchen more usable, by offering additional counter space and seating space for guests without making the space feel cluttered, cramped, or closed off. You can even put some of your appliances, like a stove, oven, or sink, in your island to better optimize the workflow of your kitchen space. Or, if you prefer smaller islands, there are options for you as well, offering additional storage and counter space without taking up too much floor space. If you are dreaming up a kitchen space that doesn’t have an island, then you need to dream bigger and imagine an island.

Use Granite Countertops

Granite is the ideal countertop surface for any kitchen, and an essential for dream kitchens everywhere. Granite is the second hardest material known to humans, making it incredibly durable and long lasting for kitchen use. Granite is also much cheaper than less durable alternatives like marble. Not to mention that with proper sealing, and resealing every year as maintained, can be heat, moisture, and stain resistant. Oh, and they look amazing too, in fact granite is one of the most popular countertop choices in modern kitchen builds.

Install a Gas Stove

Gas stoves are the stove type of choice for experienced chefs and home cooks everywhere, and for good reason. Gas stoves are the most responsive stove type, allowing you to adjust the heat almost instantaneously with adjustments to the dial that electric and magnetic stove tops cannot replicate. If you are looking for ways to store gas for your gas-powered appliances, there are a few options for you to try. Homeowners can use 120-gallon tanks to fuel their stove and other gas appliances. However, if you supply it, a gas stove will give your dream kitchen a professional look and make your cooking life far easier and more adjustable than you could imagine.

Invest in a Stunning Backsplash

A great backsplash can take a decent kitchen and turn it into a masterpiece. Your backsplash is the tiling you use in-between the countertop and the overhead cabinets in your kitchen. Some homeowners forgo a backsplash entirely but utilizing the right kind of backsplash can add an aesthetic element to your kitchen that will take it to new levels of beauty. Look for backsplashes that match your color scheme, while providing other interesting features, like new textures, shapes, or finishes than the rest of your kitchen. This way, your backsplash can offer something new to your space while working with what is already there and elevating your kitchen to new heights.

Try Something Other Than White

Many people dream of a white kitchen, white cabinets, white walls, white lights, even white flooring. But if your dream kitchen is a white kitchen, try to think harder and be more creative when crafting your kitchen. If a white kitchen is truly your dream, then know that there is nothing wrong with going that route, it’s just not the most original choice. Spicing things up with colors you love, different materials, textures, shapes, and lighting options will give your dream kitchen a unique and vibrant feeling that little else can. Get creative with your colors, materials, and textures and branch out from a white kitchen

Think About Storage Space

Many people building kitchens from scratch get lost in the aesthetics and forget functionality. This can most often be seen in a lack of sufficient storage space in the kitchen. Remember that while a beautiful kitchen can be the most beautiful room in a home, its main purpose is for cooking, and if it is not designed to optimize the cooking task, then it is not a great kitchen space. Consider storage when designing your space, and try to find creative ways to add storage, like adding hanging hooks for pans and utensils on walls or doing custom cabinets to ensure that every usable space is used in your kitchen. A usable kitchen is a dream kitchen.

Design With Workflow in Mind

Another thing that people lose sight of in designing their dream kitchen in their custom home is the workflow of a kitchen space. It doesn’t make much sense to have your oven on the opposite side of the kitchen from your stove top, nor does it make sense to keep your custom spice cabinet near the sink. Make sure you are considering what you will need to optimize your kitchen workflow. A kitchen that makes cooking easy is the perfect kitchen, and when designing from scratch, you can put things exactly where they should go. Don’t fumble that opportunity.

A customer home build is the perfect opportunity to realize your dream kitchen. As the most valuable and used space in the home, you should never compromise on your dream kitchen. Make sure to consider these tips when designing your kitchen so that you can turn your dream into a reality.
