Great landscaping frames the home. It should add to, rather than detract from, the beauty of your home. When your landscape doesn’t look nice, it draws the eye in a very negative way. Consciously keeping your landscape looking nice will make a great difference in how you feel about your home.
Beautiful landscapes in residential areas are not natural. If you want your landscape to look a certain way, you are probably going to have to make and maintain it that way. The key to landscaping maintenance is consistency in small things like pruning, weeding, watering, and caring for the soil. You cannot expect to do these things only once or to try and “get ahead” by pruning, weeding, watering, or caring for the soil extra so that you won’t have to do it again until much later. That would be like getting an extremely short haircut that doesn’t suit your face just so you won’t need to cut it again for another six months or drinking an unhealthy amount of water in one day and thinking you won’t need to drink anything for the next week. Doing a small bit of work every few days or at least every week will not take long and will result in a beautiful landscape.
Pests are notorious for messing up the landscape. You may notice that your landscape tends to look worse during certain months or seasons. This may be because certain pests are more active during specific times of the year. For example, moles tend to dig up to the surface in warmer months. Holes in your landscape can be an eyesore and a walking hazard. Invest in methods of pest repellent to keep your lawn healthy and safe.
With landscaping, going with the flow of nature will be easiest. If you live in an extremely dry climate, for example, maintaining a landscape that requires a lot of water and shade will be very time-consuming, expensive, and difficult. When deciding what flowers and plants to use in your landscape, consider ones that thrive best in the natural climate where you live.
Sometimes the best landscape for your home isn’t the one you’ve always envisioned. Ultimately, your landscape will look as nice as you are willing and able to make it. In order to keep your landscape looking nice, be sure to consider how much time you will put into it, pests, and other climate factors.
