Water Features Perfect for Small Backyards | Arlington Development

It’s the perfect time to have an extra peaceful space, and outside garden spaces are a beautiful outdoor room. When designing your outdoor room, having a space for water features adds considerable drama without hurting your budget. What kinds of water features, though, could work in your backyard? And what considerations should you make when installing one?

Water Wall

A water wall is a lovely way to create a water space, while also inviting a minimalist look to your yard. Because of the way water flows downward, this sort of water feature can save space as well. It need not be large but can be a space near seating that offers a naturally soothing sound, stimulating the brain and helping create a peaceful conversation zone. There are many options available, from DIY choices to builds that can invoke natural waterfalls, including rock and moss.

Hot Tub

Gone are the spaces which don’t need to be useful to your family. One of the benefits of a water feature is that it can be both beautiful and relaxing, and a hot tub can be relaxing to both the brain and body. Soaking in a hot tub for 15–30 minutes is enough to begin to enjoy the benefits it offers. Modern hot tubs can be minimalist in design as well and fit into many outdoor spaces. With a plethora of pain-relieving benefits, hot tubs are an ongoing water feature that can benefit all ages of families and home sizes.

Creekbed

Whereas twenty years ago, a home might include a pond as a water feature, many families now don’t want standing water, nor deeper water that remains uncovered, which can be a danger to children. Building a recirculating “creek bed” style fountain solves both of these issues. Mosquitoes cannot breed in moving water, after all! This style fountain, which propels water horizontally rather than vertically, can add water feature charm without sounding or seeming pretentious.

Your backyard space is a bonus room for your family, but adding an element of relaxation is never a bad thing. Sounds of flowing water have been known to increase blood flow to the brain, releasing neurochemicals that cause feelings of well-being. During a time in which it isn’t naturally peaceful or particularly soothing, all members of your family could benefit from natural peacefulness and a bit extra happiness included!
