When renovating your home, it will require that you spend some money. The specific area and the size of that area will change how much money you will spend. No matter what you are renovating, it is important that you know where it is ok to save and when you should splurge.

Siding

It is ok to splurge on the siding of your home because this is one of the first things people see. High quality siding that looks nice will increase your curb appeal. It is especially important to replace your siding if your old siding is damaged or warped. Splurging on high quality siding will help it to last longer, which means that your home will be protected and better insulated. You should choose a high-quality siding that looks nice for your home, you can even choose one that has a grain pattern and looks like natural wood. Splurging on siding means you won’t have to replace it and your home will benefit from being energy efficient.

The Floors

During your home renovation, you should splurge on the floors. Floors take a lot of wear and tear and so you want to make sure they are something that are durable while also looking nice. Natural wood flooring is a great option for your home because it looks beautiful and is durable. Natural wood floors can be refinished multiple times, so you won’t have to fully replace the floors for a long time. Hardwood floors are more expensive, but they also give your home a great resale value. You could also choose laminate or tile. If you choose these options, also make sure you splurge on quality to look nice and last.

The Master Bathroom

The master bathroom is an area of the home you will want to splurge on. You don’t need to splurge on everything, but there are a few features you should go for quality. You should splurge on the plumbing fixtures, shower controls and shower head. The showerhead won’t break your bank, but it will be worth it to have something that you enjoy. The fixtures need to be high quality so they will last long and prevent leaks. Shower controls will help your bathroom stand out.

The Kitchen

There are some parts of your kitchen you should splurge and some you can save. You should splurge on countertops because higher quality countertops will look better in your kitchen and be more durable. Common countertop materials are quartz, granite, and marble. You should also splurge on your cabinets. Again, a high-quality cabinet will look better and be more durable. Often you will need custom or semi-custom cabinets because measurements are different. You can also add other features that will make your cabinets even better. You can do soft-close drawers and doors and pull out shelves. Pull out shelves reduces frustration when you need to grab items from your cabinets.

Bathroom Fixtures

Bathroom fixtures may seem like something you can save on, but you should be careful because sometimes the cheaper options are not going to last as long. The cheaper option may look good on the outside, but will it last? You need to make sure the finish won’t wear off. You need to make sure it is quality material rather than just plastic. Any savings you have from low-cost fixtures could be negated if you must fix damage from leaks caused by poor quality fixtures. Splurging on fixtures will give you better odds of them lasting longer and preventing leaks.

Paint

There are many kinds of paint you can choose when doing a home renovation. You should go for the more expensive paints because they will last longer. Higher priced paints are higher quality and will go on your walls better. This paint won’t chip or fade as easily, which will keep your walls looking nice. Low quality, cheap paint won’t look as good, will chip and flake more easily, and you will need to repaint sooner than if you use the more expensive one. Because the quality paint will last longer, you will spend less money and time overall because you won’t need to repaint as often.

Insulation

Insulation is an important aspect of your home that will help it feel a more comfortable temperature, as well as save you money on utilities. Doing a renovation may be a good time to replace your insulation because you are already changing other things. If you are doing a more extensive renovation, like gutting rooms including the walls, this will be a perfect time to think about your insulation. You should also think about replacing windows and doors as these also work to help keep your home insulated. You don’t have to go for the most expensive options, but you should splurge a little so they will be effective in keeping your home energy efficient and providing security.

Lighting

Lighting is an important feature of your home. The amount and type of lighting can change the feel of the room. It is also important to make sure places in your home are well lit, such as the kitchen, for safety. You should splurge on a couple key lighting fixtures that create the right amount of light in a room. Other lighting in your home can be more basic and economical. You should also add in LED bulbs. These will last longer and be more economical for your home, which will save you money in the long run.

When spending money on your home renovation, splurge on the things that matter the most. You should splurge on the things you know are used often and will need to be durable. The things that are the most permanent is when quality matters. You can get away with saving in some areas, but you should make sure that what you choose is always quality. By choosing quality, you ensure that your renovation will improve the look of your home for years to come.
